Three-time Grammy Award winner and Gospel Music Hall of Fame legends The Mighty Clouds of Joy are celebrating over 46 years of creating acclaimed gospel music with their new album produced by Sanchez Harley( Yolanda Adams, Kirk Franklin, and Shirley Caesar). The group recorded the project during a special concert at Friendship West Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, August 2006. The group has established themselves as one of the best-selling quartets of all time and one of the longest-standing gospel groups with over 36 albums under their belt. This album proves that Mighty Clouds of Joy founding members Joe Ligon and Richard Wallace, along with long-time members Mike Cook, Ron Staples and Johnny Valentine, are far from retiring.
The Mighty Clouds of Joy have been molding gospel music since the late 1950s and were a pioneering force behind many of the genre's changes over the years. They were the first gospel group to perform on Soul Train, and the first gospel quartet to use a full rhythm section and incorporate choreography into their performances. Throughout their illustrious career, the group has performed with such notable artists as Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Paul Simon, Earth Wind & Fire and The Rolling Stones, among others. They have played grand venues such as The White House, Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, and the Apollo Theatre and have appeared on countless television programs, including the Grammy Awards.
