Product Description

The killing of five missionaries: Nate Saint, Jim Elliot, Roger Youderian, Ed McCully, and Peter Fleming in the Amazon jungle captured the attention of a nation and prompted Elisabeth Elliot to write the best-selling Through Gates of Splendor. But what would remain untold for a half a century is the incredible response to these deaths.

Beyond the Gates of Splendor, a stirring documentary by director Jim Hanon and producer Mart Green, brings this story to life. The film traces friendships forming on a Midwest college campus, young families venturing out to the South American mission field, and the heartbreak of a bloody beach in Ecuador. Five lives taken by the Waodani (a.k.a. Aucas), the most violent tribe on earth. The tragedy compels several of the women to risk their lives, and those of their children, to live alongside their husbands' killers. Through the example of these brave women, a brutal, warring culture is transformed. Murderers become healers. And what was once known as the cradle of darkness becomes a community of light and hope.

Beyond the Gates of Splendor is the first film in the Walk His Trail trilogy, which continues with the feature film End of the Spear and concludes with The Grandfathers. All three award-winning films are approved by the Dove Foundation. Winner of the Crystal Heart Award (Heartland Film Festival) and the Audience Award, Best Documentary Feature (Palm Beach International Film Festival).

Dove "Faith Friendly" Seal for Ages 12+

This story is legendary. I remember hearing about the deaths of Nate Saint, Jim Elliott and three other missionaries as a youth in my church. "Beyond the Gates of Splendor" is a gripping documentary masterfully written and directed by Jim Hanon. It chronicles the lives of these gallant men and how they became inspired to reach the unreachable in one of the most remote regions on earth. But this story goes beyond the tragic tale, and continues with the saga of the wives and children of the slain martyrs, who reached out to the very "savages" who killed their family members with the kind of unconditional love exemplified by Jesus himself. This moving story of Love Triumphant is told by the actual characters themselves and their family members. Forgiveness and reconciliation are depicted with clarity and with passion. The cinematography is breathtaking. The soundtrack, performed by the London Symphony Orchestra, provides a perfect musical canvas for telling this rich, colorful story. "Beyond the Gates of Splendor" is a must-see for anyone seeking inspiration in real-life role models; however, please note that this documentary is most suitable for an audience over age 12.
