The Lee Boys are one of America's fmest African-American sacred steel ensembles. This family group consists of three brothers, Alvin Lee (guitar), Derrick Lee and Keith Lee (vocals) along with their three nephews, Roosevelt Collier (pedal steel guitar), Alvin Cordy Jr. (7-string bass) and Earl Walker (drums). Each member began taking music instruction and making music in the House of God church they attended in Perrine, FL. Here they underwent a rigorous course of training in a variety of musical instruments, including lap and pedal steel guitars. Born and raised in Miami, each of The Lee Boys grew up in the church where their father and grandfather, Elder Robert . Lee, was the pastor and a steel player himself. Deacon Alvin Lee, The Lee Boys' leader, is an ordained minister of music. Keith Lee served as choir director and praise and worship leader in the church.
At the secular festivals where they perform, Deacon Alvin Lee and the Lee Boys normally lead a Sunday service, Deacon Lee says, "I was called to take this music and His Word outside the four walls. When The Lee Boys have Sunday service at a big rock festival, it makes my heart warm to know kids who might not ever have gone to church in their lives are hearing The Word."
